Santa Rosa Approves Rewording of Plaque Allegedly Commemorating Rape of Native Woman
The City of Santa Rosa, Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club, & local Native Americans have reached an agreement to modify a historically racist plaque
For at least the past several years, Native Americans local to Santa Rosa, California have requested for a racist plaque commemorated by the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club to be modified.
On June 19, 2025, I published the following article:
On the same day, I emailed my article to the City of Santa Rosa & Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club.
On June 24, 2025, I received a response from the Kiwanis Club.
Today, the Natives received confirmation from the City that they were given permission to reword the plaque.
Mr. Joe Salinas & Ms. MaDonna Feather Cruz appeared to spearhead the advocacy to modify the plaque. Due to their persistence, leadership and bridge building, long-awaited change is finally here!
